Noel Landers from Youghal CYMS defeated Aaron Goldrick 3-0 in the final of today’s first RIBSA U16 ranking event of the season in CrossGuns in Dublin.

A total of 21 entries including three members of the Rep Of Ireland junior international team battled it out for the winners trophy and the all important ranking points.

With last years U16 national champion Charlie Sweeney no longer eligible in this age group the opportunity was there for someone to steal a march on the field in the first event of the season. However it was Noel Landers who stole the show with a fantastic display of potting and breakbuilding to win today’s tournament.

Other top performances on the day were from Ronan Whyte from the Northwest Snooker Club who reached the semi finals defeating current U14 National champion Fergal Quinn 3-1 in the quater finals and Ross Bullman who also excelled defeating top seed Jason O’Hagan 3-1 en route to the semi finals.

The semi finals pairings saw Landers defeat Whyte 3-1 whilst the other semi was a tightly contested affair with Goldrick edging out Bullman 3-2.

The final was a superb match with both players playing at the top of their game and although it finished 3-0 to Landers all three frames were won on the colours.

Goldrick along with his runners up trophy also won the high break prize with a fantastic 67 break in his quater final win over Shane Hourihane.

I would like to thank RIBSA Chairman John Doherty and referee Geradine McQuade Al Abiad for attending and officiating today and also all the players, their families and friends for supporting the event, the matches were played in a great sporting spirit befitting the game.

Congratulations to all the competitors and its on to Letterkenny in December for the second U16 ranking event.
